The Gratitude Campaign. It’s easier than you think.

Someone sent me this wonderful e-mail today and I wanted to share it with you.

The Gratitude Campaign was started as a way for people to say "thank you" quickly and easily to those who serve our country without even having to approach them. I

It’s not about politics.

It’s about service, and sacrifice.

And it’s about gratitude.

And I, for one, am so grateful to all of them.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

PS ~ I left a flower for you on [my other blog] today.

I;'m sorry... this is really nice. But they are signing "thank you" wrong. (I'm a sign language interpreter.) So that bothers me. They are signing "willing" ... although the sentiment is nice so I shouldn't be so picky.

...Beautiful - it gave me goosebumps... :o)

...I did not know that either but I Googled the correct sign and 'Carol E.' is correct. You are supposed to sign from your lips and down, not from you chest...altho' I'm thinking maybe this could be the start of a "new sign" meant for a way for anyone to say "thank you" in a special way to our military personnel, no? Either way, I like anything that comes from the heart... :o)

...Blessings...

For years, whenever, wherever I've seen a service man or woman, I've quietly walked up to them and said, "Thank you for serving." Never has one been offended, never has one not responded, "thank you" in return. Some great conversations have begun, especially with older men, WWII vets, who, with tears in their eyes said, "Thank you for remembering."

OK, your post gave me chills!!!
I must say that when I'm at the airport, I usually smile at the troops, sometimes my husband will pick up the tab for the soldier sitting by himself in the bar.
After recently flying, I'm glad to say that the pilots of the planes are still announcing upon arrival that there is a special guest on board who served his country and protects our freedom. The plane always breaks out in applause...and my eyes tear up.

Thank you for sharing this. My son was overwhelmed by how so many people offered their thanks when he travelled out west (in our own Canada) last year. He never once had to pay for coffee and he had many good conversations regardless of political beliefs. This is a wonderful campaign as it's a great way to make this acknowledgement as comfortable as a nod. I'm thinking that it's just a non-ASL way of saying "thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Loved this.

(teehee, Carol's right, they are using the wrong sign for "thank you")

I did this a few weeks ago on the way down into the subway .. there were 3 young soldiers in uniform and I said 'thank you for all you do for us'

BTW .. I also thank police and firemen when I see them .. cause they too deserve our graditude

The way I see it is that it's not associated with American Sign Language. It's a gesture, plain and simple, that begins at your heart. I figure most soldiers don't know sign language anyway, and the world is made up of many gestures and this would be in that category.

A lovely gesture to thank those who sacrifice so much for the rest of us.
