I don’t want my husband to see how tired I am sometimes because he would love to have a job and a purpose in life. I will admit that sometimes life is hard. But compared to what others are going through, this is a piece of cake. A piece of crumb cake.
Taken with my phone from my front walk yesterday morning as I left for work. It looked so much prettier on the cell phone screen. The sun was just coming up and my husband reminded me that when I went to work on Monday, it would look very different because on Saturday night, we set the clocks ahead. I mean, back. Oh, well.
Taken through my windshield coming up the driveway after a long day at work. Sometimes I wish this were our very own home, but then I would need to win the lottery to fix it up right.
I woke up at 6:30 this morning, thinking I would just stay up and get an early start on cleaning. But then I came to my senses and climbed back into bed. An hour later, the scent of (what I thought was) baking bread enticed me from my soft, warm bed and I made my way downstairs to find my husband baking cookies. That’s always a good sign.
But I was hoping it was bread.

Yesterday after work, I filled up the car with the last of the gift cards given to me by my co-workers (bless them). Afterward, I waited in the line to make a left turn to the traffic light at the main highway, hoping I could stay awake for the short drive home. I ended up being the first car at the light. A big construction vehicle pulled up next to me as I searched for a radio station to keep me awake for the drive and found one playing Dire Strait’s Tunnel of Love. This tune immediately took me back in years to the first horse farm we ever lived on, when my husband and I were young and had our whole lives ahead of us. Mark Knopfler’s awesome guitar licks filled the car with the memories as I quietly mouthed some of the words to the sweetest part of the song. And as the light turned green, I looked to the right and was surprised see the construction worker smiling at me and *gasp* checking me out. I had no idea I was being observed and must have registered shock before I stepped on the gas pedal and zoomed away. He looked to be my son's age!
But that really is an awesome song.
Hope your Saturday is filled with things that make you glad. I plan on spending some quality time with my Miele. But that’s another story for another day, and not a very exciting one at that.
Update: Check out Karen at This Old House and her 24 Project. I love this.

Good Morning! Lovely photos. And I had a chuckle over the truck driver checking you out. Were you singing along with the song? Have a great weekend!
I love Dire Straits!! You are always baking at your home and it makes me feel like I want to. But eating it? Not such a good idea for us:-/

Happy Saturday Kate. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Very good photos, Kate. I continue to remember you as you go through the challenges life has for you. May you experience comfort and peace.
Kate, you always make me feel good when I read your blog - you have both suffered such adversities and yet you manage to carry on - your husband baking cookies and you playing the kind of music that makes truck drivers look at you in a certain way!! Well done to both of you - keep it up, it is inspiring.
I'll bet that construction worker put a smile on your face all day!
Love that song by Dire Straits! Your post makes me want a nice big slice of homemade bread slathered with butter! Your pictures are very nice! You really live on some beautiful property!Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget it's turn the clocks back for the fall!
Oh, it's been way too long since someone checked me out... hoping Bill Clinton will do so today when I go watch and listen to him speak. LOL
Glad you are well and still as talented as ever with your photos and words.
clocks BACK ...remember? spring forward...fall back...I know it's been a tough week!!! but being checked out it good...yes it is!!!
I too, though tired and just recently hurt on the job, am very thankful to have a job, so many do not...
Don't you love when that happens? :-)
and thank you, friend xo
Glad all is going well . Rock on girl ! Hubby baking cookies, now that is a nice smell to wake up to ! Lovely photos ! Have a good day !
Your photos made me smile. Today has been a good Saturday for me so far; I got out of going to work today (shhhh! LOL) and was able to sleep in, then I had to get gas in my car - which, with the gas rationing that began at noon today here in NJ, meant that I had to wait on line for 2 1/2 hours, but I ended up filling my tank on $30 so I was thrilled. Now I'm hoping to spend some time writing in my journal and blogging. :)
Looks like you still got it, Kate, whatever it is.
I hate how good pictures look on your cell phone screen, and then not so much on your computer screen.
Not a bad couple of day makers.. cookies and lookies from a young cookie. ;)
Hilary - hilarious!!
I have to say I am of the age now, that when a guy gives me that kind of attention, I wonder when they last had their eyes checked... LOL.
Love me some Dire Straits.
:-)
BB
I agree with Hilary - cookies and lookies.... not a bad day!! ;o)
Now you have me wanting to make a crumb cake. What is it about Fall that does that to me .. maybe getting the house warm and smelling nice.
I've been to to Dire Straits in concert and to see Mark Knopfler play outside at a winery. So, I'm with you on that song.
Hope your life brings you a bit of peace each day. You and your family so deserve it.
xo,

I love the smell of cookies baking, makes me want some right now. love the sunrise picture. gorgeous!
Kind of makes your day to have that kind of "look" sometimes.
Ummm, the smell of baking bread, oh and cookies. I haven't baked in so long.
What a "pick me up" ~ I would have been smiling all the way home :)
Beautiful post Kate :)
You cougar you.
Glad you can release some stress while singing to some seriously good tunes. And even more fun to be checked out while doing it :) You made that dude's day.
Mama said it best ... grrrowl
You certainly do have some great car moments! LOL!
Any weekend that starts with the smell of baked goods has got to be a great one! Mine mostly involved yard work and painting but at least I did have a feeling of accomplishment and some sore muscles to make me feel good:)
I embarress myself all the time at redlights....singing and dancing (head and shoulders) to the music
I've gotten some looks ...hahaha...not in a good way!
Oh Kate! Isn't it great just once in awhile to catch a young guy checking you out....I remember those days.Of course, now I'm 63, I don't see it that much--and I'm not aging all that well with this old Fibromyalgia, I don't expect it a lot. But..when I see the young guys I once taught in Sunday School and I was young and strong and...well, pretty..I remember how they looked at me then, and, when I run into them, how they still seem to think, "Hey! She's still got it!" (It may be all in different places and sagging, and all be pointing downward--but I've still got it--just more of it! LOL)
I love Mark Knofler--he's one heck of guitar player and Dire Straits was a great band. Chet Atkins--a master guitarist--- was very impressed with Mark, and that was a great compliment. They did shows together, and it was something to watch..
Blessings Kate--I always love to se you post!
Hope you had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed your extra hour of sleep!
I've got one Knopfler solo album "Sailing to Philadelphia" which I love!!!
Grace
That made me smile! It's quite flattering be checked out, especially by a much younger guy! I love Dire Straits, too.
I envy you having a husband who bakes cookies; mine struggles to boil an egg!
Take care and get some rest.
CJ x
You described the scene at the stoplight so well...it's just like I saw it all unfolding...loved that! And yum, the smell of cookies baking in the morning or bread, both delightful! xo
