The perks (and downfalls) of my job

Look at this beautiful creation. This has to be the prettiest cupcake I've ever seen in my life.

And it's extra large. You probably can't tell by the picture, but it's twice the size of a regular cupcake, and was made from scratch.

When it's a child's birthday, their parents often send in something sweet to celebrate it. We are always getting little visitors to the office, offering their cupcakes and telling us today is their birthday.
And please don't tell them this, but although I always accept their offerings, I rarely eat them. It's not just the caloric bounty of the little devils, it's that they don't look (or taste, I'm sure) like THIS!!

My friend, the art teacher, came in to visit at the end of the day and she took one look at this cupcake and pronounded that it could be in the movies. It's a movie star cupcake.
It was the talk among everyone at school this afternoon.

And to think this little girl whose birthday was today is only in the 5th grade. This means we get many more years of awesome deliciousness and layers on our hips.

And yes, in case you're wondering, it tasted even better than it looked, if that was possible.

Oh, mama.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

(if I can still fit into my jeans, that is) . . .

Is there any cake under all of that frosting?! WOW!
But I can tell just from the photo that its the GOOD frosting, not the crappy cardboard frosting.
That looks DELISH! I want to reach through the computer screen and snag it and eat every crumb. Crap, my mouth is watering...

What a creation, for sure! I also had kids bring in things (well, not quite like THIS one) for their birthdays and I always accepted their offer. But I seldom ate them, either, especially if they handed it to me with their own grubby little hands. :) Well, let's face it, schools are cess pools of germs and even getting a flu shot every year didn't always do the trick. I'd remind my own studen to allow their friends to choose a cupcake themselves rather than hand it to them. I was a real fuddy duddy, I guess, but I think it did help to contain some of the germs. But how can you resist those little shiny faces as they smile up at you offering you such a morsel!!! :D Glad this one tasted as good as it looked!

Isn't that a work of art! I love hearing about your work. I so miss working at the school! I loved when the kids would bring birthday treats in, it was always so thoughtful.

that's a great looking cupcake and it's so nice to see that some schools still let "party cake" in the front door. I thought it was awful when I read that schools aren't allowing kids to clebrate birthdays anymore.

Must say, I've been the recipient of many a birthday offerings but never one as beautiful as that! Isn't it hard to deny yourself of all that glorious gooey goodness? I do try to throw out after the birthday pal leaves....but I'm not always successful. And I wonder why the scale needle doesn't go down!

I love your description comparing this cake to a movie star - you are right, it is absolutely beautiful. Almost too good to eat - but then I don't know - it does look tempting.

Ha, MPM, my thought exactly. The person who made that cupcake needs to go into business. Perhaps he/she already is. Quite the artist.

Gorgeous!!!!

I am a mom of a sweet adorable daughter also in the 5th grade, and an 'real boy' in the 4th grade..

I feel very lucky to have 2 healthy kids, and let me tell you, not all parents give a rip about their kids.. or their birthdays...or what they eat or wear (hair is matted, clothes look dingy, hungry when they arrive in the morning)..
Hats off to this mom for making her daughter's 11th birthday special and for caring about her daughter!!!

As our girls get older the chance to 'welcome' this type of thing gets slimmer and slimmer (no calorie puns intended!).. meaning, they start getting snarky and don't want us around!!!

Thanks for taking the photo... I want one!

When I used to be a substitute teacher, birthday treats were always an conundrum. Germs were always a concern - especially when the birthday child approached you with a runny nose. But add to that the cleanliness of the child was often reflective of the child's home so if the treat was homemade, this was somethimes even scarier than the runny nose.

But I must admit that that cupcake was one beautiful work of icing art.

Wow, that is a work of art! I am trying my darnedest not too eat the brownies that someone made for my daughter's birthday today... they are calling me from the kitchen... can you hear them? She is gone with her driving instructor to take her test. Do you think she would miss just one? Maybe if I just broke the edge off of one...

Oh Lord.

Wow, that IS pretty! I could never do that. And to think it tasted good too! It's usually one or the other, looks or taste; in my case taste, they always look awful when I make them. (I did find a cool recipe for a true "cup" cake made in a coffee mug! I'll post it one of these days).
