Rainy Friday

School was closed Friday, mainly to give the teachers a break because the previous day is traditionally "Conference Day" and we ask the teachers to stay until 8 PM. I don't teach, but I also get the day off.

Click on any of these photos to enlarge.

I took a drive with my husband towards coastal Delaware, along Route 9. We crossed the bridge over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal and continued south. It was coming on high tide and when that happens, sometimes the roads get a bit flooded. We got out and walked where we could, but it was the first day of bow season and our usual walking places were packed with hunters.
It rained on and off, and eventually settled into a swirling mist while the sky lightened and darkened. I don't know about you, but I love days like this. I don't feel so badly about settling into a comfy chair and reading a book, or working on my photographs on the computer.
My husband bought a paper and told me to feel free to stop at any of my favorite shops along the route home. Huh? He said to go ahead; he'd just sit in the car and read the paper and he and George would be just fine. So I stopped at a little shop in Middletown, DE near the horse farm on which we lived.

The shop was decorated entirely for the holidays and even had Christmas music on (good grief). I bought a candle with a scent I love as well as a little primitive snowman. I collect snowmen and I really needed this one. Really.

Can you imagine how difficult it is for a man to relinquish driving to his wife, and for him to sit calmly by and not tell her exactly how to drive, where to park, where to go, etc. etc.? Can you imagine your husband doing this? It ain't easy, my friends. But today, my husband somehow shut his mouth and just let me drive. And honestly, it was nice. He's doing a bit better as the days go by and the pain has lessened tremendously. And the best part is the word retrieval. I don't know if I've ever mentioned this, but I was afraid that we'd never have a real conversation again. At times, it's so difficult for him to find the words he needs to say. But there has been such an amazing improvement and to talk with him now, you'd never know he had brain surgery less than a month ago.

It's raining again today. And it's fine with me.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I'm glad you had such a good day with your husband yesterday. I am the bossy one in the car. Sometimes my husband asks me to drive because he doesn't want to be bossed.

How great your husband is feeling fetter and thinking more clearly. I am sure you are both so thankful!

I know I am!

For the first 10 years of my marriage I wouldnt even drive with my husband in the car.

Now I wish that he didn't ask me to drive so much....blah blah blah he is constantly telling me how to drive. Drives me spastic....so I can not imagine and idyllic drive any where with him in the passenger seat.

Tami,
It never used to be this way. I could rarely drive with him as the passenger. I NEVER told him how to drive or when to slow down yet he always took the opportunity to tell me.
But right now, driving makes him tired. There's a lot of thought that goes behind driving really, and so I think he appreciates that someone else is doing it right now for him.
To everyone, yes it's a blessing that he's doing well. Thanks for your kind thoughts.

That sounds wonderful! I am so glad that your hubby is recovering so quickly.
I think it's ridiculous how early the stores try to bring in Christmas too. But I'm glad that you found a snowman for you collection. My MIL collects snowmen too. I collect Santa's.
*hugs*

Those photos are stunning! Love the autumn colours and the stillness of the water gave me a sense of calmness. So happy you enjoyed the day and hubby was happy to let you shop. All healing takes time and it looks like things are going as expected and even better. Hugz...

Sounds like a lovely drive. Actually, WT likes me to drive him around, and I often do. Glad to hear the two of you had a pleasant day. :^)

So glad to hear that your husband is feeling better. I hope he continues to feel better each day. And it sounds like you had a nice relaxing day. I think the only time my husband ever wanted me to drive was when he had a kidney stone and needed to go to the emergency room - any other time, he must be behind the wheel - a bit of a control freak that way!!!

Honestly it sounds like a perfect day! I had one like it last weekend. It started off misty so we decided to take the dog for a walk as the park would be quiet. We got soaked as the mist turned to rain, but had a lovely time together and Tika got her exercise. We returned home and curled up on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate each and let the rest of the day slip by.

Kate,
I'm so glad you both had such a nice day. Just to be together is such a blessing sometimes. I guess I'm lucky -- I am one of the few people my husband is content to let drive him...

The photos are lovely! I love marshlands -- so subtle and so beautiful.

It's getting colder here today, bright and windy. Hope you have a wonderful day. :)
xoxo,
Mary

I am so glad you were able to get out and have a nice time away. Isn't the brain an amazing thing? The words will continue to come. I could never drive when my husband and I were together until about three or four years ago. He was becoming so agitated at the other drivers on the road that his blood pressure was going up. So I began to drive and he reads his paper and ignores the traffic. Works much better this way.
