Fun in Philadelphia

I took the day off Monday to spend with my niece and my sister in Philadelphia. We met at my niece’s apartment and headed out and about.

Our first stop was Reading Terminal Market, which I’d heard about but never visited before yesterday. There was a plethora of vendors offering everything from lunch dishes to spices and specialty items. There was a great selection of produce and flowers as well. What a feast for the eyes and the senses!

I shot this photograph at one of the eateries. It just looked like Philadelphia to me.

Next we headed for Fabric Row and South Street. Along the way, I shot this building from the car window while at a stop light. I noticed there was a statue of a rider on his horse but I have no idea who it is or even what this building is. (Thanks readers, for letting me know it's City Hall!)

As my niece shopped in one of the many fabric stores along Fabric Row, I took photos. I liked these vintage dressmaker forms at the Pennsylvania Fabric Outlet.

Trying on some hats at Hats in the Belfry (I love that name).

William King’s striding sculpture is on the overpass above I-95 that connects South Street with the steps at Penn’s Landing.

My niece, Emily, with her mom ~ my lovely sister, Charlotte. Charlotte fun!

I processed all of the photos on this post with [Kevin Kubota] actions, specifically his chocolate syrup series. When it comes to b&w, I really like what he has to offer.

I also have a really colorful photo on the Picture a Day blog today. Just for those of you who are jonesing for some color. And yes, it is a word.

Thanks for stopping by, my friends. Until tomorrow, then . . .

My favorite kind of day...hangin' with my Mom, my sister, and my niece...we call ourselves "Girls on the Go"...and we love to spend time with each other! Laughs, fun, shopping, sight-seeing, and even sometimes history mixed in!

Glad you had this special day!

Miss Kate, I am so excited to see how your photographs have "grown" since your blog began. I especially like the people sitting on the diner stools and the dress maniquins (mispelled.)

These pictures are really great! I love the reflection of you in the window, slightly bent at the knees as you always shoot! And the diner picture is divine. B&W was the way to go with these shots!

Bravo!

Wow, these were awesome pictures of a special day. I especially loved the guys at the eatery. I love the black and white and am appreciating it more as I see the lines better to draw. Very nice. Carla

The Reading Terminal Market it the coolest place. Another is Anthropologie in the big mansion with the painted ceilings. Did you get to see it?

Your neice and sister are lovely.

Wow! The building facade looks East European to me--but what do I know! Looks like a fun time by all. Loved the look of the photos. C

That picture of all the folks lined up on barstools in the eatery seems to have captured one of my few/limited impressions of the city. Fantastic.

My dear Terminal Market! Ah, i can still smell the fish and produce and city!!

George might have told you that the great French Rennaisance building in the center of everything is Philly City Hall with William Penn on top. A GREAT pile of a building, the world's largest free-standing masonry building (no frame work girders) and world's largest example of french ren architecture!!!

Just call me (Phily born) know it all ;-)
Lovely family!

Oh Kate, now the temptation to visit Philly is even bigger- thanks for sharing your wonderful photos and I ADORE the black and white/chocolate syrup colour- WONDERFUL- I think when you take away the color in a photo you get more of the subject and these were wonderful subjects you took photos of!!! :-))

Someone said fabric? Fabric row? As in more than one shop on the same street? I can feel a trip to Philly in my future.

Oh Kate, I just love the processing on these! I think the barstools pic is my favorite. Pure slice of Philly. I think the architectural gem is City Hall. Isn't it gorgeous? Like a tiered wedding cake.

I'm so glad you had such a fun day. :)

These photos are great!! Love the black and white. I also work at a City Hall, but not nearly as grand as this one. We have a horse and rider too, ours is of RJ Reynolds.

I am a huge fan of B&W especially when the angles and lighting all come together to make really memorable and spectacular images...such as yours.

Your niece is beautiful and you really captured that beauty brilliantly.

Glad the 3 of you had such a wonderful time Kate. Seeing Charlotte and Emily having such a sweet relationship really touched me.

The diner image was excellent, especially since no one was looking your way. Kind of like a photo taken back in the 60's.

What a great city. I've never been but I'm sure there is plenty to see! Did you have a Philly Cheese Steak? ; )

Beautiful shots! I particularly enjoyed the pic of the stools/diner inside Reading Terminal Market, I was sitting there having breakfast just a few months ago :)
