Winner announced for WGG #19

Tammy at The Color of Home is this week's winner of the Weekend Guessing Game! She was the first person to correctly answer "a mushroom". Great job, Tammy. I like it when I get the perfect picture to use when it's not too terribly difficult, yet not too easy, at the same time. I'd like everyone to know how downright frustrating it is for me sometimes to come up with a picture that will mentally challenge you and yet is also fun. Great care goes into choosing exactly the right picture.
Well, not really.
To tell you the truth, last night around 5:15, I realized that it was, in fact, Friday evening and that I hadn't yet thought of anything for the weekend guessing game. I asked my husband if he could help me think of something I could use as a picture for the guessing game. He gave me a look that I took to mean, "who gives a s*it" but I know he really meant, "I don't know dear, have I told you I love you lately? and by the way, you look lovely in those little capri pants" and then he continued making dinner.
So I sat down at the computer and looked at my macro stock pictures and came across this single picture of a mushroom that I'd taken last month. And within 10 minutes, due to the amazing internet speed I now have, I had a post set up to automatically publish at 6 PM. Then I went to the licorice store. Someday I'll tell you why I call it that, but for now, my husband wanted some Corona. And if he's going to be making me dinner, this is the least I could do for him. Have you noticed how far I've digressed in this post? It's a pity how this happens sometimes.
Tammy has been a regular reader of my site ever since I started blogging. In fact, she and I both began our blogs within about a week of each other. Tammy lives with her family in Oklahoma and if you're looking for a fun game to play this weekend, check out her site. Her daughter has come up with something fun that my dog, George, thinks he might play. It's, well, it's different.
Thanks to all who played this week! Yes, it did look like skin, didn't it? Stay tuned to this blog next weekend on Friday evening at 6 PM when I post the next Weekend Guessing Game. Have a great evening, eeveryone!

Weekend Guessing Game #19 announced

It's that time again, folks, when I post a picture of something I've taken with my macro lens and you try to guess what in the world it could be.
Another easy one this week ~ or is it? No hints, but I will tell you that I promise to never publish anything gross. I just don't have it in me, and I don't like looking at gross things on other people's blogs.

If you think you have the answer, or even if you just want to drop by and say hello, click on the comment button at the bottom of this post and make a guess (or say your piece). If you're signing in anonymously, please leave your name or your initials.
First one to guess the correct answer is the winner. If you already see what you think is the answer, remember that it may be or it may not. This could be a tricky one. Oh, and there's no prize other than the fame and notoriety you will soon receive from winning this highly regarded contest. Not really.

GAME ON NOW, as of Friday, June 20 at 6:00 PM (EST). Winner will be posted by 6:00 PM Saturday.

Guessing Game winner announced

Jess has won this week's Guessing Game with the correct guess of a SEASHELL. I think everyone had the correct guess, but Jess was first. See, told you it was easy this week! And yes, I found it out in my yard. I have a whole collection of them. Originally, I found it at the beach at Assateague National Seashore in MD, or maybe it was down in Ocracoke, NC. Regardless, George enjoys picking them up and toting them around the yard. He likes to lick them, too. Don't know why.
So Jess, enjoy your fame! I left a message on your blog today, but couldn't find an e-mail address. So the only thing I know about you is from your blog. Sorry!
Shimmy Mom, you were close . . . but close doesn't count in this world, now does it? Ha!
I'll be back next weekend with something much more difficult. Or maybe not. It's summertime. Things should be easier, shouldn't they?
Now say this real quick: She sells sea shells by the sea shore. Three times really fast.
Tomorrow I may have a ghost story for you.

It's back! Weekend Guessing Game #18, baybee!

It's an easy one for you this week. I found this little item but I won't say where. I won't give you clues because I really do think it's easy. So if you think you know what this item is, click on the comment button at the end of this post and guess away. You can guess multiple times, just keep clicking the comment button. If your commenting anonymously, please leave either your initials or your first name.
Oh, and the prize? Well, unfortunately, there isn't one other than the fame that winning this game will surely bring. And there's that pure sense of satisfaction you'll earn as well. Don't forget that!
GAME ON NOW, as of 6 PM (est) Friday. Winner will be posted at 6 PM Saturday.
If you see the answer, or think you see the answer, just guess anyway. It's fun. Have a great evening, everyone.

Is that a banana in your pocket?

I'm saddened to report that no one has won the Weekend Guessing Game. I guess it was just too difficult this week. I should have warned you, too, that these are extreme close-up pictures. What looks big is actually small. So I'm sorry if people new to this blog didn't know that.
This is a close-up picture of a banana that's been sliced straight across. I took the picture and then I ate it.
Please come back next weekend when I'll have a new photo to guess.
It's always good to see new players! Welcome to all of you. So, until next Friday . . .

Guessing Game winner announced

EMILY has won this weekend's guessing game by being the first of many to guess correctly with DANDELION. Emily is pictured here on the left and that's her sister, Samantha, on the right. Emily is a college student (who graduates this month!) and lives in PA. She's also my niece, and she and Sam are the daughters of my sister, Charlotte.
Speaking of my sister, Charlotte . . . When I was in my early twenties, before any of my sisters had children, Charlotte had her names picked out for her future children. She told us that these were the names she had especially chosen and when she has children in the future, it would be really nice of us if we didn't choose them for our own. And those names were Sam and Emily. Great names, and I wish I had thought of them, but we respect each other's wishes in my family, and so the names Sam and Emily worked out well for everyone concerned. I just wanted to throw that out there.
I want to thank everyone who played the game this weekend and yes, Hilary, I saw that you had posted a gorgeous photo of a dandelion and it's actually where I got this idea! I'm thinking that next week's challenge will have to be a more difficult one. This one was wayyyyy too easy! So, Emily, hope you enjoy the fame that comes from this big win and let me know when People Magazine calls ya!
Have a wonderful evening, all.

Weekend Guessing Game #16

Yes, it's that time again, a whole two and a half hours late, when I post a picture and you try to guess what the heck it can be. Remember, it's a close-up picture of something. It's probably too easy, but what the heck. To guess, click on the comment button at the bottom of this post. If you're guessing anonymously, please leave your name or initials. So GAME ON NOW, as of 8:30 PM EST. Winner will be announced tomorrow at 6 PM.
Oh, and in case I forgot to mention, there's no prize for the winner. The only reward is the fame you'll receive from winning this popular game.
Oh, and by the way, I am so sorry for being late in posting this. Circumstances beyond my control prevented me from doing so. It was the Wild Blue Internet guy's fault. He showed up again to work on my internet problems.

Weekend Guessing Game #15 with apologies to Leslie

No, I didn't forget this time. I was crunched for time last night, and should have planned a little better.

I was just going to bag the game this weekend, but got up this morning and read Leslie's comment on the post below. Leslie was falling asleep in bed last night and suddenly remembered the game. So she GOT OUT OF BED and went to her computer and oh, my. The game wasn't posted!

I felt bad, but then I got over it quickly, and jumped up and got to work. Not that this is work, mind you.

So, let's do something a little different this weekend. For those who are new to this blog, on FRIDAY evening at 6 PM, I post a picture and you try to guess what the heck it is. I leave the picture up for 24 hours and then announce the winner at 6 PM on Saturday. To leave a guess, click on the comment button below this post. If you sign on as Anonymous, please leave your name or your initials. First one to guess correctly is the winner.

If you see what you think may be the answer, it's ok to guess anyway. I love reading your funny entries. So, get your thinking caps on and guess away!

My son came up with this one when we were at dinner last night. We went to see Iron Man and then had dinner at a fantastic Asian restaurant. I love Robert Downey, Jr. mixed with a little soy sauce.

Guessing Game Winner announced

Mental Pause Mama is the winner of the Weekend Guessing Game with her correct guess of CORK. It's actually the cork to one of my favorite wine bottle stoppers, pictured above. I just like the sparkly little gems in it. The monkey's having a good time sitting up there, too.
Mental Pause Mama (Lauren) lives in Connecticut and has been one of the original people to begin leaving comments on this blog and each time I see her name and the other now-familiar names, I'm glad that people aren't just stopping by, leaving a comment and never returning. It's nice to hear from those that continue to return.
I loved some of the guesses this week. Yummy things like raisin bread, date muffins, cookie, cobbler. (I'm getting hungry). A very unhappy Pillsbury Dough Boy on crack was really funny, Judy. And TJ's burning question about whether or not eating cork would turn you into a cork addict? Only if it's the really good cork, tj. The kind from Thailand, or something.
So congratulations, Laura. Be warned, however. You will soon be famous. Scads and scads of people will see this post and they'll see that little monkey and they'll think of you! Sorry about that.

Weekend Guessing Game #14

It's that time of the week again where I post a picture and you try to guess what the heck it could be. Remember, please, that I'd never post anything disgusting. No clues this week because it's another easy one.
To guess, click on the comment button at the bottom of this post and you'll see what to do to leave a comment. If you're posting anonymously, please leave your initials or your first name.
This post almost didn't happen. It took me over a half hour just to get a decent connection to upload my pictures, which is usually 28.8 kbps and the highest I can get through my phone line (yes, I know it's terrible, but it works) and at one point, I had an all-time low connection of 4.8 kbps. My fast internet should be working by Monday and I'll finally be zooming through internet space.
At least I'm patient. And sweet. And kind. And loveable. And so full of crap. But you must know that by now, don't you?
Have fun with it!

Judy wins again in the Guessing Game

Congratulations to my sister, JUDY, for her correst guess of a STRAWBERRY! Yep, that's what this is and so many of you got it correct, as well. Good for you! I wish I had whipped cream and sponge cake to go along with it, but unfortunately, I don't.
My sister Judy and her husband live in Florida. Judy is already famous from winning one of the first Guessing Game contests on this site, so she's a pro at dealing with the fame.
Judy and Rick are also featured on a post I wrote about a month ago, along with a picture of them with Chuck Norris in the middle. We were all in Nevada several years ago hanging out with Chuck. If you want to read the post about it, here it is.
Thanks to all who participated this week in the Guessing Game! It returns every Friday, when I remember, at 6 PM.

Winner announced early for WGG #12

JOSIE from Vancouver has won the Weekend Guessing Game with her correct guess of, guess what -- a ladybug! You all knew it was a ladybug, right?
Sometimes I just want to have fun, and why should I make the guessing game so difficult that it taxes your brains?
Josie was right on it this week and guessed shortly after the post had been published. So congratulations to you, Josie. I am sure you've been swooning in sheer delight up there in Vancouver since you found out the good news that you had won this game!
Thanks to all who played this weekend, and hope to see you back here next Friday, not only to try to win this game, but to see if I will actually remember to post it. You never know with me. And I have no idea why anyone would think I am devious. Why, I've never heard such nonsense! I am shocked!
Stop by and give a visit to Josie's blog. There's always something interesting going on. Have a wonderful evening, everyone.

It's back. Weekend Guessing Game #12

Easy one for you this week. I'm guessing that the first or second person to see this will get it right. So if you come into the comment section and see the answer there already, don't be discouraged. Everything will be okay. But if you don't see the answer there, go ahead and leave a comment as to what the heck you think this thing could be.
Or you could just say hello.
Now for some clues.
You know, I'm not even going to give any clues. It's way too easy as it is.
So, GAME ON NOW, as of 6 PM est. Winner will be posted around 6 PM tomorrow, Saturday. Oh, almost forgot to mention: there is no prize, other than the sheer delight you will feel at having won this completely mundane little game. Did I mention that the delight will be sheer? That's the best part, you know. So have fun guessing!

Fame awaits guessing game winner

Miriam Lovell Dyer's husband, DAN, is our winner for Weekend Guessing Game #11 with his correct guess of A GRAPEFRUIT. Congratulations, Dan!
We actually had several other people guess correctly and I really thought Girl had it when she said it the first time. But then she changed her guess at the last minute, leaving Dan open to swoop in and claim first prize. And we all know that first prize in this game is the fame that winning this contest can only bring. So have a pen handy, Dan, for all those folks up there in the Big City who will want your autograph because they've seen your picture on this blog! Dan and his wife, photographer Miriam Lovell Dyer, live with their two girls in NYC.
Other correct guesses of grapefruit, besides Girl were Kelly in VA and my sister Char. The first guess was funny, of my swollen knee~! Sponges and Sponge Bob were popular, and Tracey's guess of foam from a latte or a beer made me thirsty. So this afternoon, I drove to my favorite licorice store. Someday, I'll have to post about why I call it that. But I don't want to digress too much today.
Thanks to all who participated in the game this week and have a wonderful weekend, everyone! I think I'm going to go have a half a grapefruit now. Or maybe a piece of lemon meringue pie, which was Josie's guess. Thankfully, we only have grapefruit in the house!

Get famous. Win Weekend Guessing Game #11

It's that time of the week again where I post a picture and you try to guess what the heck it could be. The first one to come up with the correct answer wins. But you won't know the winner, if there is one, until 24 hours later.

This week's is extremely easy and I apologize for that. I'm trying to take it easy and not go too far. It's your only clue. So have fun with it.
>
Game on NOW, as of Friday at 6 PM.
To guess, press the word comment at the bottom of this post. If you sign on as Anonymous, please leave your first name or your initials.

Winning this game won't get you rich, but it will make you famous. So be prepared for all that. I'll post the winner in 24 hours!

Update: I apologize for lying to you. This really is difficult.

And the asparaguses have it

Well, FAVE BABE is the winner of this weekend's guessing game. She's my youngest sister, Ginny and just about a month ago, she shared the winning guess with another of my sisters. Ginny lives with hubby Jay and she and her husband care for our superdad, Clarke. Congratulations, Ginny for being the first to guess asparagus. Other people who guessed correctly were Seestah (my sister Judy), Jeannelle, Tammy, Miriam, Mary, Jen, Josie and Acorn. So with all those guessing correctly, I may have to step it up a notch next week and try to make it difficult. Or not. We'll see.
On another note, we had a beautiful day here in Maryland. It felt like 60 in the sun and it was wonderful. Have a wonderful evening, everyone!

Weekend Guessing Game #8 is here

It's that time of week again where I take a macro picture of something and hold a guessing game. I just do it for kicks, because well it isn't like there's a prize or anything.
This week I've been a little distracted. And tired. But enough of that already. Maybe I just rooted around my house and found something, because we all know that I haven't ventured out of my house at all, not even for a little walk. Or maybe . . . maybe my husband brought me home another one of his little presents. You never know here at my house.

So no clues. It's crazy because last weekend someone guessed correctly on the very first comment posted and the weekend before, zilch. I just don't know how difficult to make it. But hey, it's all in fun.
Know this, though: I would never post something gross. (Like something old I found growing in my frig or something dead in the woods). I just don't wanna see gross things in print. It's, well it's just yukky.
So put your thinking caps on. GAME ON now. Game ends in 24 hours. Winner will be posted by 6 PM tomorrow evening. To make a guess, hit the comment button at the bottom of this post. If you're commenting anonymously, leave your initials or first name. And remember, when you're guessing you may see the answer already there. Just guess anyway. It's always interesting to see what you can come up with. Be creative. Guess as often as you like and here's the important part: have fun!
Good luck! Can't wait to see who wins this Leap Day Guessing Game

Friday, February 22, 2008

Weekend Guessing Game #7 is here

It's that time of week where I take a macro picture of something and hold a guessing game. It's just for kicks, mostly because there's no prize. The prize is the fame that can only come from winning this contest. Oh, yeah.

I'll only give one clue and that is that I didn't find this in the woods. The woods are full of ice and snow today, anyway. I'll say this, as well: I think it's way too easy!

So GAME ON now. Game ends by 6 PM tomorrow evening or until someone guesses correctly. I'll post the answer as a comment as soon as I see the correct one. If I happen to check. Ok. I'll try to check.

Good luck!
UPDATE: We have a winner. See comments. I'll announce later in post.

It's Back . . . Weekend Guessing Game #4

UPDATE SATURDAY MORNING:
DEAR READERS:
I don't want to tax your minds. I can't handle it when mine works too hard, so I feel bad doing it to you. If there were an actual PRIZE involved in this game, I wouldn't be doing this. So here's a bigger picture, per your requests. And still, the only clue: I found this outside. And now you'll know what it is. Now I've given the whole thing away.
It's time for the Weekend Guessing Game. Beginning now and ending tomorrow (Saturday 2/3) at 6 PM with the results, this is where you try to guess what the heck this picture is that's posted here. This week it's another easy one. I will only give you one clue and that is that I found it outside. If you think you know the answer, or if you want to make a crazy guess (they're always interesting to read) please select the "comment" tab at the bottom of this post. You can comment anonymously, or take a moment and sign up for a (free) blogger account. You choose a screen name for this. If you sign on as anonymous, please leave a unique signature, like your first name, initials, or a nickname.
First one to guess what this is, well they're the winner. They will enjoy the feeling of fame that only winning this game can bring.
So get your brain going, and try to figure out what exactly this is here. Me, I'll be sitting back and enjoying a glass of wine because it's Friday night. And the weekend is here.
