Photographs from the vault

Well, not the old vault. Most of these photos have been posted before, and all are from early April, 2008. That was the last spring we were to spend on the horse farm and these photos are especially close to my heart because of that.

They were all taken in our backyard, a yard that bordered a huge paddock full of mares and foals. I remember being comforted by the sounds of them as I fell asleep every night.

I wonder if any of them went on to race. These are all thoroughbreds and were taken at Northview Stallion Station, outside of Chesapeake City, MD.

I like how furry they are for the first several months.

All I see when I look at these is contentment.

For anyone interested, Pioneer Woman is hosting another photography assignment. The theme this time is ‘Four Legs’.

I submitted one from my files, which I spent over an hour searching for.

Which is when I came across the mares and foals.

Truth about cats and dogs from etsy

I submitted this. I actually sell it on my etsy site. It wasn’t my idea. A reader wrote and asked if she could purchase it, so I put it up. And since then, I’ve sold several others, which really surprised me. I call it ‘The Truth About Cats and Dogs’.

Long-time readers will remember George as a puppy here, playing with the stray cat that used to climb the fence to visit with him.

It was a weird kind of love . . . oh! I remember posting about it once. Please don’t judge me for what I wrote back then. I’d taken a pain pill for my knee.

One of my favorite photos of my husband.

And on that note, I wish you good day, good night ~ whatever time it may be in your world when you read this.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Beautiful photos. I love how the kitten's paw is on George's nose!

I also like the casual snapshot of your husband. I think personalities are lost in most posed snapshots (but I take them anyway!)

I love to see the horses and the deer in their fuzzy winter coats around these parts. Of course, I love horses and deer no matter what time of year. They're so graceful!

There really is nothing better than photos of horses......unless it's photos of dogs or cats or well other 4 leggers. I so enjoy your photos.

What a great choice to submit!

Oh, I must ask you a question about Etsy. How do you go about getting prints when someone purchases a photo? I don't know how or where photographers get prints and go about shipping on their Etsy sites. I've been asked to open an Etsy site, but don't really know how it would work for photos. Hope you can provide some insight :)

This one will go down as one of my favourite posts. Those are outstandings shots of the foals. I love how leggy they are at that age, like they're walking on stilts.

*sigh* It makes me miss the horses I cared for when I did my stint as a stablehand. Last one to close up the barn at night, I loved to hear the noises they made in the quiet. So peaceful and contented.

I adore the photo of George & his feline playmate.

Nice shot of your husband, too.

Happy Friday,
Carolynn

Fabulous photos, as always, Kate.
I had a cat and a dog that were friends.....a long time ago. They would sleep together and the dog would lick the cat clean, everyday. He was a Chow/mix and the cat an adopted stray tabby. And the one of your husband.....nice to see his front side for a change.....and George.....what a dog!!!!!
but you know that already!!!!!

Beautiful Kate. Young horses are exquisite. I am sure you were so very sad to leave. I do wish your husband good health - it is the only thing which is really important, isn't it.

i love all of these photos, but that one of george and the kitty is a winner! good luck in the contest.
my dog has a relationship like that with one of our cats, one out of six ain't bad. he even chews on the cat sometimes, but pepe doesn't seem to mind either.

I LOVE the photo of George and the cat; how did you manage to find a matching cat? The baby horses... sigh... is there anything more perfect? Being from Kentucky, I've seen lots of photos of baby thoroughbreds, and the first one on this post is a treasure!

And the moments when our loved ones are deep in their thoughts are the perfect captures, I can see why that one of your husband is one of your favorites. xo ~Lili
