Fungi and lichen: perfect together

My sister, Char, and her family will 'get' the title of this post because it's also one of their family jokes. They have a lot of family jokes.
Years ago, there was a certain governor of New Jersey, who coined the phrase (said with a slightly nasal Joisey accent, and a slight lisp) "New Jersey and You: Perfect Together". So everything in their house is now "something and you: perfect together". Like "plaid and paisley: perfect together". Although I could never imagine plaid and paisley EVER being perfect together.
I'm posting these pictures because, although they're lichen and fungi, I still think they're beautiful. I took them in December after a rain, during a warm spell we were having at the time. I had just started blogging, and had also just purchased my new macro lens and had gone for a walk and came home and wrote this post.
I love how the pale green color of the moss looks against the rain-darkened wood of the tree. The carmel color of the fungi is interesting, too. And I just wanted to post something different and quiet today.
No offense was meant to anyone from New Jersey who happens to read this post. I'm from Jersey. And I'm PROUD of it.

I keep meaning to ask...or did I ask. What kind of macro lens do you have? You know, so I can lust properly...

MP, you typed it perfectly. It's exactly how he said it!

Kacey, it's a Nikkor AF 60mm/f2.8D. Bought it at the Ritz Camera shop at our local mall. It was about $450. You need a clear lens cover for it, just in case. It was a Christmas gift from my husband, who had originally given me a KitchenAid Pro mixer. And we all know that I'm not the chef in this household. And he's the one who told me to return the mixer and get anything I wanted. Hence the lens!

Excuse me for all the words here. I just had a can of Red Bull. It aids in the housecleaning process.

Love the colors!! I've been coveting a macro as well. After my kids, my favorite photography is macro. :)

Gorgeous photographs. I used to go tramping through the woods here in the rainforest when I was a child, and I loved the look of fungus and lichen. It was what made the forest so beautiful.

Paisley and plaid? Do you remember the two "Wild and Crazy Guys" on Saturday Night Live? Oh, gosh, they made paisley and plaid a fashion statement! :-)

Have you ever run into "Al G. Fun-Guy" on any of your walks?

I swear you already posted this once. Or something exactly like it. Or someone else did. Or maybe I'm just going nuts. But I swear I read this already.

Oooh, my brains. They are asplodin'.

Oh, how could I forget that paisley and plaid actually do go well together, but only worn on a Saturday night by Dan Akroid and Steve Martin. Silly of me . . .

Oh yes, I have run into Al G. Fun Guy on my walks. We like to keep it private, though . . .

And Jen, you're not losing your mind. Dyln had a post recently that featured very similar pics. Go to her blog at http://dlynz.blogspot.com/ and scroll down some. And I may have posted the fungus earlier, but I jusst can't remember . . .

Oh, and to my lovely neice, Emily, nice of you to stop by. And please, promise me that you will never put paisley and plaid together when you become a famous designer? Okay? Well, not unless it looks really good. Which, I doubt it would.

Love, you honey!

I think lichen and fungi are beautiful. I recall on a nature hike some time ago that the naturalist said seeing lichen growing was a sign of a healthy environment.

I loved Dlyn's pics and these are just as awesome. I need to get out with my new camera and explore the wilds of suburbia!

I found your blog over at Pioneer Woman and thought I'd visit. :-)

Hey laura b., I've seen you over at P-Dubs. Welcome!

Robin, it's good to know the woods here are a healthy environment. I love that you know all this stuff!

And I think your lichen is superior to my own - one of these days I will sell my husband and buy a macro lens of my very own. LOVE these pics kate!
